A few words from Dr. Teen on Cosmetic Dentistry

Your Smile
The Art of Cosmetic Dentistry
can not only transform one's smile,
but one's life.

    Dr. William Teen

A great smile not only affects the way others see us, but even more importantly, the way  we see ourselves. An improved self image enhances our confidence levels and positively affects our personalities. This can translate into more success and satisfaction professionally and personally. Treatment we perform might simply include some dental bleaching and perhaps, as an example, the re-shaping of a long tooth. It may conversely involve a total smile makeover involving multi-disciplinary dentistry and sophisticated restorative procedures. It is all a matter of what our patient desires and needs, and what solutions are available and recommended given their current condition. This is determined through diagnosis and open communication. When it comes to cosmetic dentistry, our patient's desires and goals are the most important factors in determining treatment. In the end we want an outcome that is not only cosmetically pleasing, but functional and healthy. It is only then that I can smile with you.

Smile Analysis and Dental Mock Ups

Dr. Teen uses many things to help in analysis of a patient's smile such as diagnostic impressions and models, digital photography, computer visualization, and most importantly his own experience and artistic skills. Additionally, to assist us in analyzing one's smile in 3-D, Dr. Teen will often sculpt tooth colored composite material directly onto the teeth without actually bonding it in place (dental mock-up). This helps both him and the patient in visualizing to a great degree what may be accomplished cosmetically before actually committing to a course of action. The mockups are removed at the end of the session, but impressions and photographs may be taken prior to their removal in order to record what had been done.

Cosmetic Tooth Colored Dental Bonding

Direct application of dental bonding materials when performed by a skilled and talented cosmetic dentist, can make immediate changes in the shape, size, spacing, and color of your teeth. Our diagnosis which follows a discussion with Dr. Teen regarding your needs and preferences, will tell us if it is the best solution for you.

Tooth Colored Restorations / Tooth Colored Fillings

Modern composite resin restoratives (tooth colored restorations) have eliminated the need to place silver amalgam fillings in our patient's teeth. Restorations created utilizing these materials have the added advantage of being bonded securely to the tooth structure, which often recaptures much of the strength which the tooth once had before it became weakened by decay or other tooth damage. They also have the advantage of making your tooth look very natural.

Porcelain Onlays

Porcelain Laminate Veneers

Porcelain veneers, when meticulously placed, are attractive restorations which provide many of the advantages of direct composite bonding, with the beauty, translucency, and wear resistance of porcelain. They are indirect restorations which, following tooth preparation and impressions, must be fabricated by the cosmetic dental lab, then subsequently very carefully bonded in place by Dr. Teen. Mindful diagnosis and discussion determine if they are the best choice for our patient.

All Ceramic Porcelain Crowns (Zirconia, E-Max, Feldspathic, etc.)

The all ceramic metal free crowns can offer the advantages of increased translucency and vitality. It is necessary that that sufficient tooth structure and strength be present should this treatment modality be utilized.

Porcelain Fused to Gold Crowns and Bridges

Beautiful porcelain covers a gold alloy substructure in these restorations, yielding a combination of esthetics and strength. They have the strength needed for fabrication of dental bridges where multiple missing or joined teeth are involved. They also have the advantage of gaining additional tooth coverage and strength which is needed to support and retain crowns on teeth which have been structurally compromised. They can be very beautiful and long lasting when excellent techniques and high quality dental labs and materials are used.

Tooth Contouring and Reshaping

In the hands of a skilled esthetic dentist like Dr. Teen small changes made to the shape or size of teeth, where necessary, can make dramatic differences in one's smile. These are sometimes combined with direct (no lab is needed) composite bonding to achieve the desired effect.

Tooth Whitening ( Dental Bleaching)

In days gone by you had to crown (cap) your teeth to make them lighter. Now with the use of modern dental bleaching procedures you may be able to lighten your teeth with no modification to tooth structure, and for less than the price of one crown. Granted each individual has a different bleach response or bleach potential, which will be determined during the process. We use only the finest bleaching materials which are neutral pH and have no adverse effects on tooth structure.
